About Us

ZaaK is stepping as a leader in innovative recycling industrial wastes. Using its proprietary pending technology ZaaK recycles 100% of both fresh fly ash and stockpiled ash. ZaaK technology transforms fly ash into value-added "Green" materials primarily to be used in the building and construction industries.

ZaaK is a start-up venture managed by a team of highly experienced entrepreneurs and executives and supported by a group of international industries, universities and advisers. The company has been selected by KIC InnoEnergy, Europe's leading clean-tech accelerator and VC.

Dr. Abbas Khan (Founder, CEO)

Abbas has always been passionate about the environment and sustainability from the early childhood, leading him to complete PhD in “recyclable offset printing plate material – a future graphic arts technology” from University of Heidelberg, Germany. A highly motivated individual and extremely passionate about "Green" technology, this entrepreneur is an advocate for recycling large volume of industrial wastes and revolutionise building and construction industries.

Abbas has the unique ability to recognise and capitalise on opportunities, innovate, take calculated risks, adapt to rapid changes and marshal resources to achieve his goals. Dr Khan believes in “continuous innovation” which is a vital component of a successful organisation.

An alumnus of IIT Bombay and a first generation entrepreneur, Abbas has a career encompassing engineering, research and development, product design, technology commercialisation across Australia, Germany and India.

Dr. Nicklaus Grünenfelder (COO)

Niklaus has over 25 years of extensive experience as General Manager and Managing Director in large matrix organizations and inter-cultural environments. He has a proven track record in operations in the fields of textile dyes, classical pigments, textile chemicals, pulp & paper, biomass power plant and project management. Niklaus held a variety of positions in China, Germany, Pakistan and Switzerland with the Swiss chemicals manufacturer Ciba Specialty Chemicals and the US based Huntsman, a publicly traded global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals. Recently he has been the Managing Director of the Zellstoff Stendal pulp mill, the largest and most modern pulp mill in central Europe, which belongs to Mercer Inc. 

Nicklaus is holding a Master Degree in Chemical Engineering (1982), PhD in Technical Science (1987), and Master of Business and Administration (1989) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Lausanne and Zurich, Switzerland. He also received management training at the London Business School in 2012.

Greg Vero (Engineering Director)

Greg is a chemical engineer with over 30 years’ experience in process technology, engineering, design, build & commissioning pilot and industrial plants in the chemical and water treatment industries. Greg served as a General Manager, Technology and Engineering Director at Orica as well as a Technology Manager with Exxon Chemical. His experience has included new technology plant design and start-ups in USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and China.

Greg has in-depth expertise on engineering project delivery, including design, development, scale-up and implementation of new technologies to full scale production facilities. Greg is the lead inventor of 5 patented processes, all of which have been successfully developed from the laboratory and pilot facilities to commercial scale operations. He currently operates a consulting business focused on technology strategy development, option assessment and process improvement.

 Jagdish Shah (Advisor)

An alumnus of IIT Bombay, Jagdish has more than 35 years of experience in Operation, Business Development, Marketing, Managing P&L, HS&E, heading oversees subsidiaries in US, Europe, China and running JV operations with a number of MNCs. Jagdish has served as Director of Operation at Pidilite Ind., Executive Director at Atul and Managing Director at Cibatul (a JV of Ciba with Atul)

As ‘Occupier Director’ under the Indian Companies act, Jagdish has initiated and led several green initiatives both at Atul and at Pidilite. Innovative ways for recovery of valuable chemicals from effluent streams and conserving natural resources used in the factory premises have been his important areas of contribution for over two decades.
